I saw a video that contained one of my favorite quotes recently.
I am everyone I’ve ever loved
Though, I think there’s an alternative of the quote, specifying I am a mosaic of everyone I’ve ever loved . Regardless, it made me smile a little- thinking of the silly girl that I am. Of all the shimmer parts throughout my mosaic, and all of the people I’ve swapped pieces with.
To you, the boy who loved bad movies and watching horror films on the phone: I still obsessively watch movies to this day. I like to consider myself somewhat of a media connoisseur, haha. #avidletterboxduser. And even though it has evolved, you taught me how to be truly SILLY. All of our little jokes and weird smiles. Maybe I’m just looking for something nice to say about you. Though, when I hear certain songs or see a movie that we watched together, I can’t help but feel the pit in my stomach widen at the remembrance of what we did to each other.
To you, the once and never again best friend: Though I don’t recognize too many lasting marks you’ve left on me and my personality, I do hold on to all of our memories, and the love in which I found security hidden beneath our laughter. And the love hate relationship you had with crocheting. You know my love for crafts-it was only a matter of time before I took up your hobby too, haha. My thoughts of you are stitched within the yarn of each project, sent off to a new home full of love. We didn’t end on great terms either, but I hold on to your piece of my mosaic dearly.
To the girl with an open diary: I think you are one of my favorite pieces of all. You left me with a desire for femininity, and the realization that friendship can be so much more than I ever thought- Girlhood is a connection. I sound silly writing this, but that’s what you left with me. An unshaken understanding of vulnerability. There are many things about you that I learned to unloved, but your passion for a life full of color and adventure will never leave me.
I am everyone I’ve ever loved, especially those who have drifted the furthest. I carry around your pieces of my mosaic in my pocket, taking you from place to place, showing you off. Maybe one day I’ll laugh too hard or get so busy dancing that your piece falls at my feet, never to be seen again, but for now, I cherish it.
